This is a real bugger to get into with a fully kitted walk through a 200m thigh deep water filled tunnel to a dodgy scaffolding ladder at the end. There have been a number of rock falls into the quarry over the last few years which has destroyed vis. The actual quarry is awsome to look at as it is just a hole in the ground surrounded by slate scree. This is not a dive for the beginner as the quarry drops straight to 28m all round except for a small scree slope with a few car wrecks on it. The quarry is renowned for its extensive cave system which has killed on a number of occaisions. There is some danger with the poor visibility of simply swimming int the caves bby accident. Hodge Close is quite nice, 8metre viz, 28 metres deep, tunnel system
etc. but it is a bit unstable. Rock falls have reduced the depth from 34
metres in 1996. Had a good dive in there and the sump next to it two
weeks ago.
